Middle of Week 14

Image
We are moving into the house on Saturday, so they have been pushing to have our master bedroom ready for us.  The floors are 1/2 way done.  They sand them once and then fill in the cracks and sand again, then it's painting the walls.  The bedroom door was attached to frames they made.

End of Week 13 update

Image
The guys got a lot done this week so we celebrated by bringing them pizza for lunch.  They were building a railing on the front door step today, the walls are all primed for painting, a secure place was built for the hot water tank and purifier.  The gutters were connected to the cistern.  Half of the electrical was wired in to the breaker box.  The tile was all completed, toilets in place.  Getting closer every day!  Travertine tile grouted in the shower - looks amazing!

Week 13

So we had a RECO subcontractor hook up the electricity from the box to the house yesterday, so now we have electricity, it was on a temporary pole.  Today lots happened, the third coat of the mudding was finished today.  The front of the house now has the gutter, the posts were poured for the deck and the top of the septic tank was poured.  I got the sanding and dust out of the master bedroom closet so I applied a coat of primer.  I will do several posts this week, things are happening fast now.

Windows and more

Image
Finally the windows are getting installed.  The place next door to Technos - by Madeyso is where we bought our windows, they do glass and vinyl.  We choose vinyl because it is more soundproof - at least we think it is.  We haven't done any research on it.  They came out and measured 3 weeks ago and we had hoped to get them installed Tuesday, then Wednesday - their machine broke down and we finally got them today and they will finish up tomorrow.   Also our AC was installed - we did two units, one in our bedroom and one in the guest bedroom.   Most of the tile in the bathrooms is laid.   All the drywall has been taped and mudded and we can start painting on Monday.  Can't wait!

Week 12 update

Image
Monday started out a little rough.  I stopped by the window place to see if they were going to install the windows on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday.  Their machine that makes the frames broke and they had to get a new on, it was arriving that day, so the windows should be installed on Thursday.  Then I called the cabinet people to see what kind of timeline we had for the bathroom counters and kitchen cabinets.  We had a ton of rain this weekend from Tropical storm Julia.  I guess they left their wood outside and it's all soaking wet and they have to let it dry before they can use it.  Really?????  They didn't think ahead and put the wood in the shop before the storm?  It was not a surprise that there was going to be a lot of rain this weekend.  So who knows now when we will get our cabinets.   At least the tile guys have been working hard and the main bathroom tile is almost finished. Tomorrow we buy toilets and hopefully the...

Tile

Image
I was getting a little frustrated at the lack of available tile at the building supply stores on the island.  My contractor suggested I go to Fecobe.  It's on the main road from Eldon's down to the water, on the west side of the road.  They have hundreds of options.  AMAZING!!!  We spent probably an hour trying to figure out a combination we wanted because they have so many choices.  I'll add pictures when it's done.   Make sure you watch your order, they had free delivery and I wasn't at the delivery site when they dropped off the tile, so I have to exchange some.  I needed 7 sq mts of the floor tile and 17 of the wall tile and they reversed them.  I went back to the store and they sent out the new tile the next morning and picked up the extra. Now the error I made.  Watch the prices closely.  I found some lovely tile for my shower and only needed 1.7 mts.  The price on the tile was $22 - I ASSUMED that was sq mt li...

Week 11 - this might take a couple of posts!!!

Today they started on the sheetrock.  We ordered it last week and had it delivered on Saturday.  Thankfully the roof is all done, just need windows to keep any rain out. By the end of the week, we got a lot accomplished.  It was a national 3 day Holiday so a lot of businesses were closed, but the crew worked all 3 days.  Inside is all sheetrocked and first layer of tape and mud have been applied, my front stairs are finally on and the tile is going to start next week.
